Traditionalists argue the operation promotes cleanliness and good health, but doctors claim there is no modern scientific justification for this whatsoever especially as the procedure may be conducted by anyone, anywhere, by any method. As the film shows, circumcision is clearly distressing for the child and occasionally dangerous and it is hard to avoid the conclusion that the mutilation is more about mythology and tribal solidarity than hygiene.
