tried Allclun v. The plaintilt sought to recover damages of the defendant for twelve weeks' loss of time, through being run over by the defendant's horse. Krom the evidence of the plaintilt, a young man, a scale maker, living in Jsmes.streot, St. Mark's-road, it appeared that on the Uth of April last, between nine and ten at night, he was drawing a truek along the Lnrrimoro-rond, near the library, when the d- council will be brought to bear mainly upon the eastern dis-triefs of the metropolis, where large numbers of persons are i congregated without church accommodation, and several large buildings will be hired for the purpose uf carrying on the proposed services. Henry Nowell now deposed that he had for many years been watchman to thu prosecutors, and some time ago, the prisoner bad worked there. Al one o'clock a.m., on tho icth June, witness was on the wharf, when a man seized him behind by the throat, nearly strangling him another man put a cloth over his face, saturated with chlurof. rm, hith rendered witness senseless.

He recollected nothing till about four o'clock, and was then iu great pain, and thought he was dying. A thick cloth was fastened over bis mouth His arms were tied behind him, and his leg were also lied, so that lie could not move or call out. He lay, half insensible, liil live o'clock, when a labourer came, in and released him. Ho was conveyed home, and a medical man attended ami ordered hiui to go to the country, where he remained until yesterday. Witness still suffers severely.

Wheu attacked ho distinctly saw three men, but believes there were more. He was so suddenly attacked, that he could not identify the men. Mr. Hooper, foreman to Messrs. Cory and Son, said the eouutiug-hoitsu was all safe ou the night of the '5lh June.

Next morning he was informed that the watchman was nearly murdered, and it was then found that the couuliug-house had been entered and the desks broken open and ransacked. Above in bank notes, gold and silver, and several Crystal l'alace shares were abstracted. Smith, liii said he, saw the prisoner and another man near Messrs. Cory's wharf, at two o'clock a.m., on the Jtlth June. Jli) said he was waiting for work.

Kouiaine, I said thai the prisoner absconded from tbe neighbourhood shortly after the robbery, and was uot seen till Monday evening, the loth when witness met him and took him into custody. I'f notes have been traced to a money-changer, in the Hav-mnrkct, who cashed them for a strange female the day after tlie robbery The prisoner was remanded, and a summons was issued for the attendaacc of the mouey-chauger in the Hay-tuarket. ALi.KfiBn Nuisance at a Maltster's. At Soutbwark, on Tuesday, Mr. O'Noil.

maltster and malt roaster, of Dock head, Herujmidsey, was summoned by the Uermondsoy vestry for a nuisance. Dr. ChaHis, medical officer of the vestry, said he went to defendant's premises ou the 24th and perceived a dense black ami brown smoke emitting a most offensive smell, and causing nausi a and loss of appetite at 200 yards' distance. A white vapour of most offensive smell was also emitted. Next day witness went there and viewed the whole process of roasting the malt It was being blackened for making porter and stout.

The grain was sound, but it waa much scorched. The smoke from the roasting escaped and penetrated into the adjoining houses. When the cylinder was emptied a lighter vapour arose of an olfeHsive and permanent nature. It was perceptible in witness's clothes for many days. The vapour caused irritation of the eyelids and coughing.

Other witnesses corroborated this testimony. Mr. O'Xeil said his business was se extremely wholesome that men had bteu 20 years in it without being iil for a day. There were many other maltsters in Loudon, and the medical men had declared that there was nothing unwholesome in the business. Mr.

Uureliam said the case must go to trial unless something be done to abate the nuisance, aud he adjourned the case for three weeks to allow an opportunity for doing so, otherwise the case must he tried on the nth of next month in the Central Criminal Court. Case ov Suspicion. At Guildhall, on Monday, Joseph Edwards was charged on suspicion of having robbed the house of Mr. Lewis Brabam. optician, Thavies Inn, of fifty ounces of silver plate, two clocks, a teapot, and wearing apparel.

Mr. Brabam said that on getting up that morning he found that one of his lower windows had been opened, and the place rau-sacked. H.C. Lichtwitz. of 17, liartletl's-butldings, said his bedroom window abutted on Mr, Braham's pn niises.

At live o'clock that morning he awoko and looked out of the window, and saw a large parcel, a knife-box, and two umbrellas placed on th wall leading from Mr. Braham's house to the back of a how in l'lough-court, where the prisoner lived, and he then a like the prisoner, climb the wall and take away the things. Before witness could give au alarm the man vanished. He wore a yellow waistcoHt, but uo shoes, cap, or coat. He would not swear that the prisoner was the man, though his features were similar.

Policeman list; said, that on going to the prosecutor's premises at half-past seven in the morning, whilst lie was receiving a description of the person seen by the last witness, the prisoner looked out of his window, and the last wituess immediately pointed him out as the person whom he had seen. Witness then went and apprehended tbe prisoner, whose feet corresponded with the footmarks on the flower beds iu the yard of Mr. Braham's premises, and he found in tbe iSr.V-b, io rob i.fS,, an.iltauciiile. woollen manufacturers-Watson America, computed from the returns made in the week t', .1:,. 1 rh jrh h.v nf ihs7 ji.
